Holistic Psychotherapy Maine

Hi, I’m Rachel Romanski (LCPC-C), working in-person in Portland and virtually across the state of Maine.

I offer depth-oriented therapy that resists quick fix bandaids to the challenges we face and, instead, invites in greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and lasting change. While this is mental health therapy (a.k.a. psychotherapy), my holistic approach considers the whole person— mind, body, and spirit— as well as our interconnection with each other and the world around us.

How I work

I work with people who are seeking not only relief from symptoms like anxiety, depression, stress, grief, or the effects of trauma, but also a deeper sense of meaning, connection, and self-understanding. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in familiar cycles— of self-doubt, shame, self-sabotage, etc. —and wanting something more: a better relationship with themselves, others, and the world around us.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I’m interested in understanding what has shaped our patterns throughout our lives, how those patterns continue to influence our present experience, and, ultimately, how to relate to ourselves differently. Over time, this kind of work can support change that is more sustainable and lasting.

I offer therapy that is trauma-informed, experiential, and attuned to each individual. I believe that at our core we are inherently whole, though this can become obscured by layers of trauma, invalidation, and life’s many challenges. Therapy can be a process of gently peeling back those layers to reconnect with that essential wholeness.

My approach is integrative. I draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapies, psychodynamic and Jungian perspectives, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Together, these approaches support both insight and embodied healing—working with the mind, emotions, and body.

This work can also involve rediscovering creativity, aliveness, and a deeper capacity for self-compassion and connectedness. I aim to offer a grounded, affirming space where different parts of your experience are welcomed and explored with care.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out to schedule a brief consultation and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

Choosing the right therapist matters

Beginning therapy often comes with uncertainty. You may know something needs to change, but not yet have the words for it—or know where to start.

Training and experience are important. But so does something less tangible: how it feels to sit with someone and speak openly. Finding the right fit is important. Feeling safe, understood, challenged at a sustainable pace, and able to speak honestly can create the foundation for meaningful change.

To help you decide whether we're a good match, I offer a free introductory consultation. It's an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about my approach, and see if working together feels right for you.
